First recorded Viking raid, three ships were seen off the coast of Portland.

1066 Norman invasion of Britain

William the Conqueror defeats Harold at the battle of Hastings. He commissions the Bayeux Tapestry to celebrate the victory.

1065 - 1086

Domesday book commissioned, and compiled. The purpose of this book was to chronicle everything William had conquered.

1215

Magna Carta - a charter of liberties written. Clarfied the rights of the Church, the right only to be taxed by consent and the right to proper justice.

1348

The Black death, a form of bubonic plague, arrives in England.

1455 - 1485

The Wars of the Roses: Lancaster vs. York.
