1829
Vernet appointed Governor. Britain protested.
1831
Vernet arrested three North Amercian schooners for illegal sealing. The Captain and crew of the 'Harriet' are taken to Buenos Aires for trial. The US Consul in Buenos Aires arranged the dispatch of the corvette 'Lexington' to Port Soledad (the then Falklands capital) to destroy the settlement. This was accomplished in December and Matthew Brisbane, in charge of the settlement, is taken to Montevideo in irons.
1832
Buenos Aires appoints a new Governor, but on his arrival he is murdered by mutinous soldiers.
